Is Anybody Ready for Football???

Ya'll had a look at your teams at spring practice. What do you think? Anyone out there pulling for the SEC? My son Tim will be attending UGA in the Fall. His game is soccer, though he will watch Dawgs Football. Jeanne Dow-Jones.

Doesn't SEC stand for Some Easy Colleges?

Spring practice confirms there are still some issues but NC State football is definitely on the upswing. Looking forward to another beatdown of EweNC. I will be disappointed if Weatherman doesn't weigh in on this as well.

Football? It's still baseball season! At least at UNC it is.

John: Baseball??? That's like watching paint dry. I for one am sure enough ready for some gridiron action...NFL or college I don't care. But at least I didn't go to a cow college. I graduated from Mecklenburg Community College!

John...dood...the thread is "Is Anybody Ready for Football???".

It used to be that you couldn't talk to a EweNC fan about football for more than 20 seconds before they changed the subject to basketball. Now it's baseball.

Does anybody think the Panthers will get anywhere behind Del Homme or is it time for a new QB? I sort of expected a trade over the off season.

Hard to be too critical of a QB who has put you in the NFC title game and in a Super Bowl...but I'd prefer one who you'd expect to win a game for you instead of one who you just don't want to lose it for you.

Hi Out There,
What's your name and what team/teams do you shout for?
This is a very clean forum. We sling the fun banter. My Dawgs have their first game Sept. 1st with the Gamecocks. Yep, the Border Bash. When's your team's 1st game and who are they playing? Come on guys its the middle of summer and I'm starving for football. My neck can only take so much tennis!!!!!!! LOL Jeanne

Ummm...I believe UGA's game with South Carolina is on the 12th. The Gamecocks open their season at Carter-Finley Stadium on Thursday night, September 3rd. It is my strong desire that USC will be 0-2 after the Georgia game.

Hi Rick, You are right about the date of SC game. I looked at a site that wasn't my official Ga Dawgs. I don't make predictions on Ga games. Experience has taught me to watch the game unfold to the last seconds. I wish Joe Cox and all the players of all the college teams well for this season. Already we have injuries from preseason practice. You see, at UGA they believe in "full contact" practice. JJ

And UGA has a mascot that prompted that great Southern comedian Lewis Grizzard to say, "...and Uga proceeded to lick himself where dogs are want to lick themselves." Friend 1: "Dadgum, I wish I could do that." Friend 2: "That dog'd bite you!"

Rick I find your comments....... I wanted to keep this forum clean, something you seem incapable of doing. Therefore I will no longer come to Viking Forums. I will not get in petty back and forth..... Yes, I know how dogs clean themselves. From dog lovers everywhere....grow-up! Jeanne

Rick I am ready for the Russell Wilson show to begin!!! You can have the four seasons. I'll take the College Football season over all of them!

Was anybody else edgy after the Giants-Panthers preseason game? I know it is preseason but the Panthers stunk! Not only do I think Jake needs to go, I am beginning Fox is the problem. Why couldn't the Panthers have gotten Vick or Favre? Jake needs to sweat a little.

Steve,

The Panthers always make me nervous. They seem always to be a blown defensive assignment or the one-winged dove pass from Del Homey away from defeat.

Sorry if the foregoing commentary was offensive to classmates, Panthers, panthers, doves (one-winged or otherwise), nervous people, the defensive, trumpeters or any other horn blowers, anyone named Del, Dell Computer, or anyone who can't take a joke.

Rick: Didn't offend me. I wish the Panthers would be more "offensive". They might be a contender instead of a pretender.

Rick: Four interceptions??? With Steve Smith, DeAngelo Williams? I believe the Tiny Falcons could have beaten the Panthers today. I think I am going to watch NFL Red Zone and enjoy the highlights, or perhaps lowlights

One day last week I heard a knowledgeable guy (veteran ex-NFL QB) say that a big arm was good but it wasn't the most important thing. He said Jake had an adequate NFL arm but he had all the other "it" qualities. I realize that we armchair coaches are pretty quick to blame it all on the QB when sometimes he and the receiver make different reads, the receiver breaks off his route...and don't forget that the defensive team gets paid to play football so they're pretty good. Jake may be at best at top 15 QB in the league...for the Panthers' style (presumably strong defense, run-oriented and game managemeent offense) Jake is probably a top 5 guy. When you get behind and the clock becomes a factor your run offense goes out the window, and of course the defensive guys know this.

I'm no Delhomme homey...but I ask you: if not Jake, whom?

Rick: The Panthers are the only team in the NFL whose highlights are in their bye week. Nuff said - Steve Kiser

I hear you. At least Steve Smith stepped up and said that interception near the end of the last game was his fault...not Jake's.

Got some injured people coming back this week, and they're playing the Redskins.

Rick: You were right. They were playing the Redskins. How long do you think Zorn will keep his job? Something tells me he and Cable will both be dusting off their resumes soon. And how bout the Deacs - two conference wins in a row! Hey ain't football great?

I'm happy for the Deacs...I would be happier if one of those wins had not been against NCSU. I think you may be right about those two NFL coaches...the pressure to win and win now is tremendous because so much money is at stake.
